The Schauinsland Cable Car

Iron Cat is having a day off, he has not forgiven the pilot (or pillock) for taking the wrong lane travelling to Switzerland and is sulking back at the camp site while we embrace the challenge of the local public transport and attempt to take the cable car to the top of one of the scenic mountains that seem to be everywhere. This particular cable car is one of, if not the longest in Germany and having a good head for heights, 1284m above sea level, this was going to be a breeze wasn’t it? All who know me also know that heights are something I don’t do with ease, I look at what is supporting me and how it was built and I look at what is holding the structure up that will transport me to these dizzy heights; all in all I always take a spare pair of pants. Well not so here, the German engineering met with my approval, the structures looked sound and the hill not that steep. Well how wrong was I ?

It was huge, they tempt you with a gentle rise then throw you over a chasm but after a 20 minute climb the views at the top and the chips and beer were worth it! The pictures don’t do justice to the views, I will post video if I can but you do have to experience this to understand the breathtaking beauty of the scene as it unfolds as you ascend to the top of this amazing cable car ride.

Don’t look down!
