Thunder and rain

We had expected thunder on Wednesday night, we have come to trust the Apple i phone weather app with a degree of scepticism but how wrong could it be? Wednesday was supposed to be warm with thunderstorms in the afternoon but it was stinking hot and the only thunder came at about 03:00 hours on Thursday morning and talk about the thunder rolling down the hills! it went on for hours, it seemed like every clap of thunder lasted at least five minutes, followed quickly by the next clap! We did not see any lightning but feel sorry for the poor sods that did because I have never heard thunder like it in my life!

So Thursday was to be a day of showers, Mmmm! Well they started at whenever o’clock and carried on until whenever o’clock so in my book that was torrential rain but we thought it would be ok to walk into Freiburg and have a spot of lunch, take in some shops and walk back to the campsite and chill; well we got part of it right, the chill. We strolled down the main street and were surprised to see the entire population of Freiburg was not in Freiburg as it was a religious holiday and everything was wet and closed.

We managed to find an open restaurant and stripped off our sodden overcoats and sat down to what was a very nice spaghetti bolognese and a ham and mushroom pizza accompanied by a glass of wine and a beer, of course. We walked back to the van and sorted out the drying rota, wet clothes first humans later! And of course the catkins kept falling!
