La Rochelle 2018
Well we started Thursday night at Portsmouth waiting for the 20:15 ferry to San Malo, as usual the Brittany Ferries crew were great in marshalling everyone to their correct location and providing adequate sleeping quarters. The bar entertainment was to envy or not depending on your personal preferences. The first act was a couple doing well known rock songs so went down well with me, however the comedy juggling act left much to be desired, one of which was for it to end. Friday morning brought a typical breakfast followed by a five hour run to La Rochelle and the Aire we found and used last year.

The Aire has changed, as is typical of the ever efficient account management and gone were the helpful and informative staff manning the booth at the park and ride and all hail the ticket machine with credit card facilities! We arrived some time after lunch so headed straight into La Rochelle for something to eat, not to be disappointed by the choice as every taste is catered for. In between the shopping and the eating this place is hard to beat. At this point there would be nice pictures of the sights we saw and of the nice plates of food we ate but that would need a camera and that was in Iron Cat sitting securely on the Aire! Well what can I say, I was eager to eat and forgot about the essentials of blogging about what you have done and seen!
I thought it would be a good idea to use some of the images I took last year when we visited, at least you will get an idea of how nice it is here.

The bonus of staying here is the park and ride, the charge is included in the parking fee, and the bus takes you right onto the fringe of the centre, from here a short walk in either direction provides numerous eateries, craft stalls as well as shopping of the more traditional style. From the harbour sightseeing trips can be bought to Fort Boyard and many other local sights around this marvellous harbour.

The Segway looked like fun and with plenty of pedestrian and cycle paths a good fun way to see the harbour.
